Bare all on a beach break in Brighton

Before the opening of the naturist beach, Brighton was a popular destination for healthy seaside holidays. Dr Richard Russell recommended the healthy benefits of taking to the waters. He also suggested drinking it but we would not advise that today. However, sea swimming is still very popular and the Brighton sea swimmers club has been in existence for 155 years.

Visitors can find out more about the history of sea swimming at the free Fishing Museum, which also includes details of the days when Brighton was nothing more than a sleepy fishing village. If you’ve felt inspired then there are fishing boat trips available from Brighton Marina, alternatively, just try the results at one of the city’s seafood restaurants.
