Visit one of Capability Brown’s finest landscapes

Sherborne, Dorset

Celebrate Capability Brown’s tercentenary as you explore 42 acres of Sherborne Castle's beautiful gardens and soak up the beauty, peace and tranquility of this natural setting.

The landscape garden was redesigned by Capability Brown in 1753, representing one of his earliest designs much of which survives today. He created the 50 acre lake and gave the Castle grounds the very latest in landscape gardening, with magnificent specimen trees, herbaceous borders and sweeping lawns.

The Garden boasts many champion trees including cedars of Lebanon brought here by Sir Walter Raleigh from his travels and a particularly important Ginkgo and the gardens are also renowned for their spectacular spring bulbs display.

A new exhibition for 2016 charts Capability Brown’s impact and legacy on the grounds.
