Marvel at the view from one of Nottinghamshire’s highest points

Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire

Stroll along a network of landscaped trails before climbing to one of Nottinghamshire's highest points, where a view of Hardwick Hall awaits you.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a memorable experience in Nottinghamshire.

As autumn approaches, wrap up warm and take a brisk stroll from Teversal Visitor Centre to Silverhill Wood, which was created from a former colliery spoil heap and is the highest man-made point in the county.

From here you can enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding countryside, which includes sights such as the Elizabethan mansion Hardwick Hall, and the impressive Bolsover Castle.

At the summit of Silverhill you will also find a bronze statue of a miner by the sculptor Antony Dufort. The statue, which is called ‘Testing for Gas’, is a commemoration of the area’s mining heritage.
