Cycle from coast to moor on the Tarka Trail

Dartmoor, Devon

Discover historic coastal towns, deep river valleys, and ancient woodlands on one of the country’s longest traffic-free cycling and walking routes.

There is a whole calendar of cycling events in north Devon to suit competitive riders of all abilities. From road races to the national 4x circuit, there's absolutely loads going on.

Quiet roads, stunning scenery, and some challenging hill climbs make this area a popular choice for road cyclists. Adrenaline junkies can find some mountain biking, a 4x park, some trails (dirt jumps), and great skate parks.

The Tarka Trail offers a family friendly option, with miles of relatively flat, traffic-free pathways that take in some absolutely stunning scenery. There are lots of places to stop along the way for food, and accommodation. Great bike shops operate in the area offering top mechanics, parts, bike hire, and cafes to re-fuel.

You will experience views little changed since Henry Williamson wrote his classic novel Tarka the Otter - from opportunities to see giant sand dunes at Braunton Burrows, to wide seascapes, secret valleys, and fast-flowing rivers, and perhaps a very special glimpse of a leaping salmon or an otter.

There are also historic towns and villages to explore along the way, with great cafes, restaurants, and accommodation options.
