Take a canal walk across Wiltshire’s heartland

Relax and enjoy a slower pace of life on a Wiltshire break by walking along the towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Crossing the heart of Wiltshire, the Kennet and Avon Canal weaves its way from Little Bedwyn in the east to Bradford on Avon in the west, passing through the Vale of Pewsey and the historic market town of Devizes before journeying on to Bradford on Avon and beyond.

Walkers will enjoy the slower pace of life as they stroll along the canal towpath, passing English wildlife, taking in the views and perhaps stopping in at one of the canal-side pubs or tea shops along the way.

You can either walk the whole distance of the canal (beginning in Bristol or Reading) or cherry pick your favourite sections of the English countryside. Look out for Crofton Beam Engines, the Alton Barnes White Horse and the Caen Hill flight of locks on the outskirts of Devizes.
