Take an adventurous tour of the Lake District
Lake District, Cumbria
Ancient history, amazing views, beautiful gardens and the World Owl Trust are yours to explore on this exciting day tour.
Covering the western Lake District, tour company Mountain Goat’s ‘High Adventure’ route follows that of Emperor Hadrian’s Roman legions in the first century AD. Over the Wrynose and Hardknott passes, the steepest in England, you’ll drive past the remains of Hardknott Roman Fort 1,000 feet (305 metres) up on the fells. Walk through the fort and see spectacular views of England’s highest mountains.
Before lunch, you’ll ride on the famous miniature Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway before seeing ‘Britain’s Favourite View’ at Wastwater, England’s deepest and most dramatic lake, in the afternoon. Next visit the splendid 14th century Muncaster Castle, surrounded by internationally acclaimed gardens, and the renowned World Owl Trust. The beautiful scenery of the Coniston Fells and Coniston Water bring to an end this classic Lake District tour.
Tours depart from Windermere, in northwest England, just over 3 hours by train from London.
