Stay in an Elizabethan coaching inn with a modern spin

Amersham, Buckinghamshire

Head to the edge of the Tube map to experience some old world hospitality at The Crown Inn in Amersham.

The Crown Inn calls itself a modern coaching inn, meaning hungry, weary travellers get an atmospheric Elizabethan building with 21st century comforts. History might be oozing out of its bricks and beams, but the lodgings, as they call them, have been brought up to date by interior designer Ilse Crafword (the woman behind the décor at Soho House New York).

They keep things simple here and use the best of everything; the food is made from locally sourced produce, and there are Jacob’s wool blankets on every bed. Plus it’s all located at the end of the Metropolitan line – so the city is a mere Tube ride away.
