Stand in the docks at the National Justice Museum

Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

The National Justice Museum is the only one of its kind in Europe and the only venue where you can discover Nottingham’s horrible history.

England’s history of crime and punishment is a shocking one - as are the sinister and grim stories of Nottingham’s own outlaws, brought to life in the building where they were judged, imprisoned and executed.

Based in Nottingham’s old country courthouse and gaol, where the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham lived, the museum divulges its dark and sinister history through free exhibitions, audio and guided tours and themed special events.

Explore five floors of history, and venture down below street level into the cells and dungeons below to hear of the conditions prisoners suffered in. Afterwards, head to the Robin Hood exhibition to find out more about Nottingham’s most famous outlaw.
