Darkness to Light, Salisbury Cathedral’s Advent Procession, is regarded by many as the un-missable start to the Christmas season.

This is one of the most popular services of the year. It begins with the Cathedral in total darkness and silence before the Advent Candle is lit.

The end of the procession sees the whole interior of the medieval building seen in the light of 1,300 flickering candles. Two large and colourful processions move around the Cathedral during the service, which is a beautiful mix of music and readings.

Make a break of it and enjoy Salisbury's Christmas Market and some festive treats in the city.
