See the Roman military come to life at the Roman Army Museum

Haltwhistle, Northumberland

See Emperor Hadrian's astonishing military vision brought to life at this family-friendly gallery.

At the Roman Army Museum, the Roman military machine is bought dramatically to life through original ancient artefacts, thought-provoking displays and reconstructions, and an exclusive 3D film Edge of Empire.

Life would have been tough on the Wall, what with unruly barbarians and wild weather. At the Roman Army Museum, located on the site of Roman fort Carvoran, you’ll get a real insight into and a better understanding of the soldiers from across the Empire – Syrian archers, Spanish cavalry, Belgium infantry and Roman officers – and life in the army.

Situated adjacent to a sweeping section of Hadrian’s Wall, the museum provides an authentic glimpse into Rome’s military might and its achievements here on the northern frontier.
