Barley Wood Walled Garden near the pretty village of Wrington, North Somerset is a carefully restored Victorian kitchen garden. The Garden is home to a thriving community of artists and crafts people offering a wide range of unique artwork and pottery for sale, and award-winning restaurant the Ethicurean, which specialises in using locally sourced, seasonal produce to update and innovate historical recipes.
The expert gardener grows a huge array of vegetables some of which are heritage and heirloom varieties. Espaliers and cordon fruit trees spray and fan against the warm brick walls. The garden borders are a rainbow of breathtaking colours in summer attracting butterflies and bees that live in the Garden’s orchards.
The resident artists run a calendar of courses, open days, and events, and the restaurant regularly holds events in the garden and orchard. Their traditional annual Wassail and Summer Solstice events sell out year after year.
