Shrewsbury is a pretty floral place most of the time, as you might expect for a town where Percy Thrower was Parks Superintendent for 28 years.
The town is home to one of the biggest events in the gardening calendar, the Shrewsbury Flower Show. With its roots stretching back to 1836, it is believed to be the world’s longest running horticultural show, a claim backed up by the Guinness World Book of Records.
On the second weekend of every August you get your chance to see over 3 million flowers in bloom, from Alstroemeria to Zantedeschia and a whole lot more besides.
The show attracts the best floral exhibitors from the UK and all over the world, but it’s not just the floral displays that provide the attraction. You can see your favourite celebrity gardener or TV chef, enjoy show jumping and other arena events, tap your foot whilst listening to the headline music acts and be truly wowed by the magnificent fireworks display at the end of each day.
