Music to your ears, in spectacular surroundings

Lake District, Cumbria

The Lake District is an idyllic setting for music events ranging from the hottest new pop and rock acts to the best in classical music.

Kendal Calling has fast become one of the country’s best music festivals, winning awards since its inauguration in 2006; its first year featured big-name acts Pendulum and British Sea Power, as well as fighting robots, flying plastic owls and more in the glorious Abbot Hall Park. Although it has grown in size, Kendal Calling still has an intimate, exciting air about it. Head over in August and dance in a field, for a truly English experience!

Fans of classical music should coincide their visit with Lake District Summer Music, also in August. Cumbria's historic churches and halls are the perfect setting for chamber music and orchestral concerts, recitals, music theatre, jazz and more. Enjoy opera and ballet relayed from the great opera houses in the charming Fellinis arts cinema in Ambleside.

Kendal is 2 hours 50 minutes from London by rail; Ambleside is 13 miles (21 km) away.
