Discover ancient sites and the enchanting myths and legends of King Arthur in the heart of Somerset.
Glastonbury Abbey has legendary status as the earliest Christian monastic site in Britain and by Domesday it was the wealthiest abbey in England. It played a major part in the development of Arthurian legend that had a lasting impact on British history and English cultural ideals.
Once featured in Matthew Paris’ map of the world in 1250, today the abbey continues to attract visitors from around the globe keen to discover the history, heritage, myths and legends. Abbot St Dunstan devised the coronation ceremony still used for British Kings and Queens, including Queen Elizabeth II.
