Celebrate the Golden Age of Steam in Shropshire

Bridgnorth, Shropshire

Journey back to the days of train whistles and locomotives as the Severn Valley Railway celebrate its Golden Jubilee.

As the name suggests, The Severn Valley Railway runs alongside the River Severn between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster giving a steam-through-the-countryside experience second to none. Its old world charm and beautiful scenery make it a natural winner with visitors and film producers alike, having featured in numerous film productions over the years.

Pop into Bridgnorth, change your transport to vertical rails, and try the longest inland funicular railway in the land. You may be lucky enough to see some exotic animals too - elephants and camels often take an interest in the trains as they pass by the nearby safari park. You can even have a Sunday lunch whilst you whistle through the villages and countryside. Here’s soot in your eye!
