Discover over 2,000 years of history on a visit to Old Sarum, and take in the sprawling countryside of Wiltshire.
Old Sarum is the original site of the city of Salisbury and is located two miles north of the current city centre. The massive Iron Age hillfort was re-used by the Romans, Saxons and Normans before growing into one of the most flourishing settlements in medieval England.
On a visit here see the ruins of the old castle, cathedral, and royal palace, and find out what led to Old Sarum’s demise and subsequent move to modern-day Salisbury. Due to the site’s elevation, you can enjoy some beautiful views across the surrounding Wiltshire countryside and towards the city of Salisbury. Look out for regular events including re-enactments, jousting, and family trails.
