Go to the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships

Manchester, Greater Manchester

This annual competition between Lancashire and Yorkshire, which dates back to the 1980s, sees black puddings hurled at a pile of Yorkshire puddings on a 20 foot high plinth.

Anyone can have a go at this unique and highly entertaining competition which involves plenty of eating too! Visitors can relax and enjoy the spectacle of black pudding throwing or take part and compete against others in this battle of the roses. Expect a lively atmosphere and lots of fun.

The Oaks Pub is ideally located for spectators or competitors to quench their thirst with its collection of cask ales and friendly hospitality. There’s also hot food available and families are welcome.

Visitors staying in the local area also have the option of taking a steam train on the East Lancashire Railway to Ramsbottom where the event is held. Traditionally, the black pudding used in the competition is transported from Bury to Ramsbottom via steam train.

This year's event takes place on 9 September, so get your practice in and you could become a world champion!
