Visit Tales of the Old Gaol House, and go back in time to experience the sights and sounds of the history of crime and punishment over the centuries.
A fun and fascinating attraction for all the family; you will not be alone in the historic cells as you take an accompanying audio or written guide through the creepy areas - for costumed figures and eerie background noises will allow imaginations to run riot as to what the conditions must have been like in the original 18th Century cells.
A 1930s Police Station charge room, complete with desk sergeant, is your first point of call. Here you can read the sergeant's charge book, look through the mug shot folder, take your own fingerprints, and even take your own mug shot (don’t forget your camera).
Other areas show the different crimes that were committed and the often humiliating punishments that were handed out (it was public entertainment to see people in the stocks and pillories). You will also learn all about how witches were treated and punished in King's Lynn.
