Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival gives you the chance to watch films you won’t find in your local cinema in a range of unusual surroundings.
Every year, Berwick-Upon-Tweed is transformed into one massive living cinema. The red carpet is rolled out for a selection of world premieres, and art installations pop up in the most unlikely places, including the Town Hall’s Prison Cells and the Bankhill Ice House.
Just don’t expect to see the latest Hollywood blockbuster; Berwick is dedicated to cultural cinema and showcasing the work of independent directors – Cecilia Stenbom and Per Hanefjord to name but a few. Though there’s plenty of sitting watching movies, the festival prides itself on its hands-on workshops, which explore both the technical and creative elements of filmmaking. Surely a must for budding Steven Spielbergs.
