Explore the woodland gardens of Thorp Perrow Arboretum

Lose yourself on the trails in this secret garden packed with rare trees and blooming shrubs.

Pack a picnic and head for the 85-acre Thorp Perrow Arboretum near the town of Bedale, a private, year-round garden criss-crossed by winding nature trails.

The themed gardens include the pretty Spring Wood, thought to date from the 16th century, and the Milbank Pinetum – a collection of conifers planted by Augusta Milbank in the mid-1900s.

Pop into the thatched tea rooms for some sugary sustenance before visiting the Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre, where the hands-on experiences include watching new hatchlings undergoing training, and the chance to help fly a hawk.
