The Magna Carta Celebration Event in June will be an exciting evocation of Hedingham Castle's close involvement in the dramatic events of 1215.
On Sunday June 14, to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, Hedingham Castle will stage a colourful and action-packed recreation of the events that led Robert de Vere, Lord of Hedingham, to join the rebel barons against the power of King John.
With the inner bailey surrounding the keep transformed into a bustling medieval village full of living history, craftsmen, traders and a pair of comic gravediggers, the arrival of Robert Fitzwalter to persuade Lord de Vere to throw in his lot with the rebels is set off to spectacular effect.
Following a staging of the scene at Runnymede, the knights arm themselves and prepare for the final battle, with armed men on foot and the leaders on horseback.
