Gloucester’s history is brought to life from Saturday 3rd to Sunday 18th September 2016 as the city gears up to celebrate one of its most important anniversaries – the 800th anniversary of the coronation of Henry III in Gloucester Cathedral – the last English monarch to be crowned outside of London. Celebrated author, TV presenter and medieval art historian, Dr Janina Ramirez, has been appointed as the first President of the Festival.

The Festival celebrates the city's 2,000 years of history with parades, re-enactments and talks and tours. The Blackfriars Talks series features eminent historians and authors covering subjects of local and national interest.

The Festival also encompasses the third largest Heritage Open Days in the country when the city celebrates its wealth of historic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public.
