Enjoy a high flying family break in Sunderland

Sunderland, Tyne and Wear

Visit the largest free air show in the country, ride a model train through lush parkland and go rock pooling on the beach.

Summer days at Sunderland's coast can be spent by running across the wide stretch of sandy beaches at Seaburn and Roker.  Take a paddle in the North Sea, build sandcastles and search for watery wildlife in rockpools dotted along the coast.

Roker Park is an idyllic green space accessed at Holey Rock corner and is home to the quirky, spherical Roker Pods. Find lots of activities suitable for children such as the model railway and boating lake or, for the older ones, tennis and basketball courts. Whilst they let off steam in the large play area, you can enjoy tranquillity along the leafy paths.

At the coast, experience the exhilarating Sunderland International Airshow, one of the largest free airshows in the UK. Enjoy a weekend of amazing flying displays, featuring top aerial displays from the RAF Red Arrows, with fairground rides and military exhibitions.
