See the planets at home with Bath’s most famous starry-eyed siblings.
As if discovering Uranus and developing telescopes wasn’t enough, the Herschels – William and Caroline – were also highly talented musicians. If you can get over your own inadequacies in their light, the Herschel Museum of Astronomy is a rewarding stop on Bath’s star-studded sightseeing route.
Housed in the Herschels’ former home on historic New King Street, the museum boasts original tools and workshop items, a history of the siblings’ lives and achievements, and the Star Vault Astronomy auditorium, which features a short film by the late, great Sir Patrick Moore. You’ll be absolutely star-struck (sorry).
From the heavens to horticulture, step outside into the garden, for a recreation of tranquil Georgian greenery.
