Encounter wildlife on the UK's first boating ring

Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire

Set sail on a narrow boat trip on the historic Droitwich Canals to the River Severn and beyond, the Mid Worcestershire boating ring now offers a perfect weekend getaway.

Droitwich Spa has reaped the benefits through time as it has the strongest natural salt water known and is one of the main sources of salt production throughout history since the Iron Age. The Droitwich Canals were built to transport the salt to the River Severn and beyond.

Today you can still hear about the historic connections with the Romans and the Victorian times in the Salt Museum. The boating ring has an abundance of wildlife and Coney Meadow Reed Bed is a thriving habitat close to the village of Salwarpe.

The site supports a wide range of plants, mammals and insects including otters, reed buntings, reed warblers and bats.
