Can you hear the medieval moot horn? Travel through 2,000 years of history with the sights and sounds of Winchester from the Iron Age to the present.
Here you can see the vestiges of England’s Anglo Saxon kings and discover history as it was, from Anglo Saxon jewels to the mayor’s medieval toilet seat. You can even dress like a Saxon lord or lady and handle real artefacts.
Slip on a toga and gaze into the mirror used by the Roman mistress of the house and explore other everyday items the Romans used. You can even uncover the skeletal remains of a Roman burial. Moving forward a few centuries, you can pretend you are a Victorian lady or Edwardian gent and try on the hats and costumes they would have worn.
Then you can walk through reconstructed 19th- and 20th- century shops including a Victorian pharmacy complete with leech bottles. Children will also love the hands-on interactive activities and searching through the galleries to track down answers to the quizzes. All this and admission is free.
