ShareCelebrate Jane Austen at the Jane Austen Regency Festival in June and visit her much loved home in Hampshire and the countryside that inspired her.
Jane Austen was born in Hampshire and it’s here that she lived most of her life, finding the inspiration to write such classics as Pride and Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility.
In 1809, Jane, her sister and their mother settled in Chawton. Here you can explore the fields and country lanes where she walked and visit her home at the Jane Austen’s House Museum. Her brother’s Elizabethan manor house and parkland, now Chawton House Library, is also nearby.
The market town of Alton is where Jane would go to visit and shop while she lived at Chawton. Jane Austen Regency Week is celebrated there each summer with a series of events in June, with talks, music, guided walks and a Regency ball.
