Cycle Through Time

Norwich, Norfolk

Explore the extensive grounds of Norfolk's fabulous Blickling Estate on two wheels.

We’re not sure if Robert Lyminge, the man who designed Blickling Hall, Norfolk’s most elegant Jacobean house, had two wheels in mind when he came up with his masterpiece, but there is no better way to see this stunning estate than by bike.

Whether you choose to take a fascinating detour off the ancient Pedders Way path that runs nearby, or hire a bike from the orchard picnic area within the grounds, an ability to cover territory at a pace quicker than an amble is a definite advantage at sprawling Blickling Hall. Not that we’d want to encourage anybody to start popping wheelies through 400 year old Blicking’s spectacular long gallery, intricate plasterwork ceilings and fine collections of furniture, pictures and rare books.Nope. When it comes to taking in the rarified atmosphere of a beautiful building that has been pivotal in the country’s history, two legs are definitely better than two wheels. But if you want to experience the other romantic Jacobean buildings, extensive formal gardens and surrounding woodland of the estate, pedal power is definitely the way to go.

This is mental and physical exertion at its best - and all without a hill in sight.
