Cycle around Portsmouth and discover its famous women

Portsmouth, Hampshire

Portsmouth has been home to important and influential women over its 900 years as a city, this ride introduces you some of its famous daughters.

Portsmouth's Famous Women is a 13 mile cycle ride around the lower half of the island, taking you along Southsea seafront, Old Portsmouth and the city centre.

Along the way you'll meet Michelle Magorian, the novelist best known for writing children's books, most notably ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’. You'll pass the headquarters of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies. You'll learn about Hannah Snell, who disguised herself as a man and travelled to Portsmouth and joined the navy as a marine, and many more ground-breaking females from history.

You'll start and finish in the majestic Portsmouth Guildhall Square, watched over by Queen Victoria.
