Stratford’s tradition of Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebrations dates back more than 100 years and is a magnificent event. There really is no better place to spend a cultural holiday celebrating the birthday of England’s favourite playwright than in his own beloved hometown.
Street entertainment and birthday-themed cultural activities happen throughout the picturesque riverside town with an impressive mix of pageantry and performance, including a grand birthday procession through Stratford-upon-Avon’s historic spine.
2016 is a very special year for this part of the country, as the region celebrates thoughout the year to mark 400 years since Shakespeare died, with 3 brand new attractions opening in Stratford-upon-Avon to mark the occassion including Shakespeare's schoolroom, a reimagined New Place (his final home) and a fully immersive theatrical exhibition in the Royal Shakespeare Company's Swan Theatre.
