Take inspiration from the written and spoken word and East Hampshire’s literary heritage at events this winter.
In this bicentenary year of the first publication of Jane Austen’s Emma, celebrate Jane’s birthday at Jane Austen’s House museum in Chawton – free entry, every 16 December. The literary inspiration continues with the Mulled Wine event, an annual favourite in Selborne over the first weekend in December, when Gilbert White's House is decorated with traditional evergreens for Christmas, mulled wine is served and there are garden tours and apple wassailing (White, the author of the Natural History of Selborne was a keen gardener). Or you can listen to Tales of Winter Magic in the round house at Butser Ancient Farm, an event to keep children and adults spell-bound.
