September events: Watch future Oscar-winners at Encounters Film Festival

Celebrate short and animated film talent with internationally-renowned Encounters Film Festival, held annually in Bristol.

Encounters Festival is the longest-running competitive short film and animation festival in the UK. Famous for being one of the world's best-known showcases and meeting points for international short and animated film talent, Encounters is a qualifying festival for the world’s most prestigious film awards, the Oscars, BAFTAs, European Film Awards and Cartoon d’Or.

Six films shortlisted for the 2016 Oscars were made by Encounters alumni and were screened at Encounters in Bristol in 2015, including the Bristol-based Aardman Animations, producers of ‘Shaun the Sheep’. The 5-day festival takes place each year in September with events, screenings, discussions, image performances, workshops and parties spread across some of Bristol’s best cultural venues –Arnolfini and Watershed on Bristol’s vibrant harbourside and Cube Cinema.

Expect an inspiring week, whether you’re a cinema buff wanting to soak up the festival atmosphere, filmmaker looking to launch or develop your career or an Industry professional wanting to stay in touch with what’s new.
