The UK’s first Cycling City, Bristol is one of Europe’s most bike-friendly destinations and cycling is a great way to see the city.

Take a spin away from the tarmac and head for something a bit muddier and bumpier, minutes from classy Clifton Village and just a short hop over Clifton Suspension Bridge to Ashton Court Estate.

Hire a bike (or opt for a lesson – they cater for all levels) from Pedal Progression, located in the centre of Ashton Court – a gorgeous public park that sprawls over 850 acres of woods and grassland and home to the world-famous International Bristol Balloon Fiesta.

The estate also has 7km of mountain bike trails, winding through beautiful glades and wide-tracked avenues. From there you can drop down to the towpath along the river Avon, cycle beneath Brunel’s iconic Suspension Bridge and climb back gently through the National Trust’s Leigh Woods.
