Be inspired by authors at the Hexham Book Festival

Hexham, Northumberland

Hexham's annual celebration of all things literary features some of the country's best writers in a suitably beautiful setting.

Each spring the pretty town of Hexham buzzes with anticipation, as one of England's top literary festivals rolls in. Writers old and new come to the town's Queen's Hall (a magnificent Victorian landmark facing lovely Hexham Abbey) to speak about their work and teach a few tricks of the trade. Other events include illustration workshops, history lectures and cooking demonstrations.

There's a focus on homegrown talent with authors from across England (including Prue Leith and Michael Rosen) slated to appear. And if you're with children there's plenty of hands-on fun for them. Who knows: maybe the festival will spark a passion in your family's very own lexicographic heavyweight?

Hexham Book Festival 2019 takes place between 26 April - 5 May with a variety of events available to book through the website.
