It was founded in 1964 as a research-intensive university with a focus on social sciences, humanities, sciences, law and business. The institution also has some of the most advanced sporting facilities in the country, and research and educational initiatives by the university were linked to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

A wide range of flexible meeting and conference rooms are available, with capacities ranging from 15-1,000. The iLab is an inspirational facility equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and is especially designed to encourage creative thinking and stimulate minds.
