Caroline Phelan - Business Events team

How did you come to work at MeetEngland?

I have extensive experience working in the MICE and leisure tourism industry in mainland Europe, with a career that spans over 25 years.

Before joining MeetEngland in 2017, I headed up the MICE department in France for Tourism Ireland. Prior to that role, I ran my own Travel Marketing Consultancy Company for more than ten years. During this time, I worked with VisitScotland, London & Partners, MICE agencies in France and hotels groups, helping to source buyers, organise events and create a solid sales strategy.

Today I am based in Paris and I am responsible for promoting England, to the European MICE market.

What do you like the most about working in the events industry?

The people! I love the diversity of all the different areas our colleagues work in – from corporate meetings or incentives to international conferences run by associations. I enjoy working alongside them to develop the best strategy to help deliver their future event needs.

What do you love about England?

England is an amazingly diverse country where delegates can literally walk in the footsteps of famous English historical figures. It is a country that is full of cutting-edge design and steeped in history, always offering planners something new.

Since I joined the team, my role has led me to some wonderful places  which I was able to experience for the first time such as the beautiful bridges, architecture and galleries that are located in the northern city of Newcastle or the creativity and artistic flair of Bristol.  There is so much to experience and I look forward to uncovering more in the future!

Why should international event planners consider England as a destination for their future business events?

There are hundreds of reasons why international event planners should consider England for future events, but if I looked at the top three, I would say:

1) Access - with international airports avaliable throughout the country, accessing England is easy.

2) Price - England can be very competitive and you can get a lot for your money – just ask us!

3) Destinations - from quirky original programmes and beautiful hotels to state-of-the-art conference centres, England is home to some superb destinations that are oozing originality.
