Get into the Christmas spirit in style and jump on board any one of these classic steam train experiences in England. Kids will have an unforgettable time sharing the journey with a certain Mr Claus before he returns to reindeer power in time for the big day...

All aboard Santa's Grotto on the North York Moors Railway Kids will be doubly excited to go through their list with Santa in his special grotto on-board the North York Moors Railway's Santa Express. Everyone gets to tuck in to mince pies and hot drinks and the kids will each receive a Christmas pressie from the big man too. Regular performances with bands, hand bells and choirs throughout the day at Pickering station add to the festive atmosphere. You can book to board the Santa Express for the weekends running up to Christmas and departing from Pickering, Grosmont or Whitby stations to journey throughout the North East. Santa’s surprise appearance on the

Dartmouth Steam Railway Steaming through wooded glades and along the south Devon coastline, the Dartmouth Steam Railway’s Santa Express is guaranteed to get filed under “Extremely Fond Christmas Memories”. There’ll be mince pies and mulled wine for the adults and homemade biscuits for the kids along with a gift from Father Christmas as he ho-ho-hos his way down the aisle. Arriving back at Paignton you’ll find the station’s log fires burning welcomingly.

Ride with Santa on the Great Central Railway An hour of enchantment awaits as kids young and old chug their way from Loughborough to Leicester North on the Great Central Railway’s Santa Steam Trains. Have chat with Santa and make sure everything is in order for the big day. He’ll even give you a present in person and there’ll be enough tasty treats on board to keep the whole family refreshed before calling “See you soon!” to Santa from the platform.

Decorated vintage carriages on the East Lancashire Railway You’ll hear the brass band play traditional Christmas carols before your eyes meet a platform decked out in sparkling decorations at the East Lancashire Railway. Along your journey in the warm vintage carriages you’ll meet Santa and his crew as they hand out gifts and spread Christmas cheer. Grown-ups get a Christmas tipple and mince pie as you’re all pulled through the Lancastrian countryside by a handsome locomotive.
