Auntie VE solves your romantic problems - part three

VisitEngland has teamed up with relationship coach Sarah Abell to recommend some great romantic getaways designed to help get your love lives back on track.

Sarah is the author of Inside Out - How to Have Authentic Relationships with Everyone in Your Life , former Agony Aunt for the Daily Telegraph and regular love columnist for Psychologies magazine.

In her third column, Sarah suggests a relaxing romantic break to the Isle of Wight, to help out-of-touch couples find each other all over again.

Dear Sarah,

My husband and I have just moved house to the other end of the country from our family and friends. The move and the pressure of both starting new jobs have taken their toll on our stress levels and we really need a holiday. Can you recommend a trip to help us to put our focus back on each other?

Marian, Looe

Dear Marian,

Moving house and starting new jobs are high up the list of the most common stressful experiences. It is therefore not surprising that you are both feeling the heat. Taking a holiday to get your breath back and re-introduce yourselves to each other is a wonderful idea.

Why not try holidaying on the picturesque Isle of Wight? I’d recommend that you find a lovely hotel where you can benefit from some pampering, beautiful views and a few days off having to cook for yourselves. You might want to take a look at the four-star Lakeside Park Hotel in Ryde which has one of the best Alum Bay Lighthouse VisitEngland/Jeremy Cangialosispas on the island and offers a range of health and beauty treatments all set in a fantastic lakeside location.

It might be tempting to stay in the spa all holiday but if you can drag yourselves away there is a lot to do and explore on the island. A great way to re-connect is to walk and talk… and make love of course! With 189 sq km of the Isle of Wight designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty there is plenty of beautiful landscape to discover. You can wander through forests of golden beach trees or visit secluded coves. Or if you are feeling more adventurous – how about a sail around the dramatic coastline, paragliding, paddle boarding or a gallop on horseback across one of the beaches? Getting the wind in your hair can be a great way to blow out the stresses and clear the mind.

Whilst you are away take the time to focus on the future together. Find a lovely, atmospheric pub like the sixteenth-century Buddle Inn, which is renowned for its great food and smuggling history, and dream together by a roaring log fire. What do you want your new life to look like? How are you going to make sure you carve out enough time for each other? What interests, sports or hobbies could you both take up to balance the stresses of work?

A holiday can be a great time to pause, re-connect and be intentional about the future. I hope you find the rest and recuperation that you need to face your future with a renewed sense of hope and excitement.
