As restoration projects go, this one has been pretty major. Room after room at Temple Newsam, a magnificent Tudor-Jacobean house just east of the Yorkshire city of Leeds, has been restored to its original glory.

Inside the mansion, there are now 30 rooms where fabulous paintings, furniture masterpieces, textiles, silverware and porcelain have been collated –resulting in a world-class collection of decorative arts.

If this isn’t sufficient to have you blocking out a date in your diary, then how about the fact that you can meet 400 sheep, cattle, pigs, poultry and goats that live at Home Farm? It’s the largest working rare breeds farm in Europe don’t you know...

Leave time for a high tea in the café.
