Follow the Thames Path from Windsor through the villages of Bray and Cookham with lunch options at great gastro-pubs or fine dining restaurants.
A Windsor riverside walk delivers amazing views of the Thames, appetite building exercise and opportunities for spotting swans, ducks, moorhen and coots. The really lucky see great crested grebe, kingfishers or red kites.
Setting off from Windsor you’ll pass gothic Oakley Court, star of the Rocky Horror Picture Show movie, and Monkey Island. After 7km you’ll reach Bray, the only village in the world with two, three Michelin starred restaurants, The Waterside Inn, The Fat Duck, The Hindes Head and The Crown pub.
Not hungry yet? Carry on the full 16km passing under Maidenhead’s famous railway bridge to Cookham’s 15th & 16th century high street where Bel & the Dragon is reputedly one of the oldest licensed houses in England.
