Glide through the waterways of unspoilt Cheshire

Audlem, Cheshire

Take in quaint villages, welcoming country pubs, majestic industrial heritage sites and even castles on a boat trip through the county’s canals.

Step aboard a colourful canal boat and take in Cheshire’s idyllic waterways for a relaxing trip though the county in Northern England. The Cheshire Ring is a 97-mile (156km) circular canal route with 92 locks that passes the edge of the Pennines and the Cheshire Peak District, the gentle rolling Cheshire countryside and also the historic Anderton Boat Lift near Northwich. The lift is an incredible structure, like a giant three-storey iron spider, built by civil engineer Edwin Clark in 1875 to lift cargo boats 15 metres (50 feet) from the River Weaver up to the Trent & Mersey Canal.

For a city experience, see Chester from a different perspective and dine on the Mill Hotel’s Restaurant Lunch and Dinner Cruiser, which views parts of the city unreachable by other transport.

Chester is around 1 hour’s drive from Manchester and a 3 hour 40 minute drive from London.
