Derby has a trio of National Trust treasures all within a 10 mile radius, so use the city as your base to explore Calke, Sudbury and Kedleston.
You’ll be amazed at the contrast of these three places. Calke Abbey’s home of decay, peeling wallpaper and stuffed creatures, Kedleston Hall’s finery – a fitting film location for Keira Knightly to perform in The Duchess, and you can relive all your childhood memories at Sudbury Hall and the National Trust Museum of Childhood.
Tuck into the yummy on site cafes too where you can taste the local specialities and buy some topical treats from the gift shops.
You can really enjoy the best of both worlds with staying in Derby and day tripping out to these countryside gems.
