Saris and jewellery to spices and dining on the Golden Mile

Leicester, Leicestershire

A trip to Leicester isn’t complete without a visit to the Golden Mile.

The Golden Mile truly glitters at times with the whole road lit up for celebrations starting with the spectacular Festival of Light and culminating with the Christmas seasonal lights displays.

Leicester’s Belgrave and Melton Roads are an exotic treat from the east, renowned for their authentic Indian restaurants, spices, gifts, clothes and accessories - plenty for you to explore.

Jewellery shop owners will be happy to explain the tradition behind your coveted earrings, bangles or necklaces and the saree houses display intricate clothing made of silk and hand-embroidered with sequins, beads and crystals.

You’ll be hard pressed to choose where to eat and drink with the best in Indian cuisine. Taste the best in vegetarian and traditional curries or try a fusion of Indo-Chinese delicacies. Don’t forget to take home some of the delicious Indian sweets and savouries from the delis either.
