Imperial War Museum North

Manchester, Greater Manchester

Get an insight into the wars and conflicts that have shaped both England and the world at the Imperial War Museum North.

Imagine coming face-to-face with the same 13-pounder field gun that fired the British Army's first shot of WWI. How about a Russian T-34 tank or a United States Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier jet?

Some of the most potent symbols of war are on display at IWM North.

Situated in a stunning location beside Manchester’s Ship Canal, the newest addition to the Imperial War Museum is the first branch in the north of England and is in itself a breathtaking piece of architecture.

There’s a lot more on offer than just guns and weapons; the museum features art and sculptural exhibitions, Horrible Histories for the little ones, poignant stories, interactive displays and even wreckage from New York’s World Trade Center.

IWM North has the power to move you, amaze you and challenge everything you think you know about war.
