Get into green camping in the Cotswolds

Nympsfield, Gloucestershire

Camp out amongst elderflowers and starlight at Thistledown Campsite. Acres of idyllic woodland surround your tent, waiting to be explored for free.

For a cheap holiday in the UK, pitch your own tent or hire a bell tent at Thistledown Campsite in the Cotswolds. This green campsite, located in the uninhabited Woodchester Valley, is a fantastic spot to reengage with nature.

For free things to do by day, explore the paths winding through 70 acres of ancient meadow and woodland dotted with land art, stock up from the farm shop or feed the kunekune pigs. As dusk falls, light a campfire, feast from the communal clay oven and surround yourself with starlight.

The adjoining NT Woodchester Park is home to a gothic mansion and free 3km sculpture and play trail. Nearby, Coaley Peak picnic spot offers panoramic views across the Severn, kite-flying opportunities and the locally famous Winstone’s ice cream van.
