Since the early days of the first Victorian tourists, the walk around the lake has become something of a classic. A 15-year-old girl from a small village in the Lake District, known as the Maid of Buttermere, found herself thrust into the limelight, her beauty touted as a tourist attraction.

You too can follow in the footsteps of the Victorians and discover this enchanting valley and the home to the Maid of Buttermere. There are lots of opportunities to explore, becks, trees, gravel beaches and even a short tunnel. Older children can take off on a 7.5 mile adventure while the little ones are kept entertained on a shorter 4.3 mile route.
