Settle down on Sunderland's award-winning beaches

Sunderland, Tyne and Wear

Grab a blanket, a picnic and your favourite flip flops, and head down to the beautiful twin-beach resorts of Roker and Seaburn.

Family favourites for hundreds of years, Sunderland's twin beaches are pretty special. For starters, Roker is home to unique geological structures - its rugged cliffs and ‘cannonball’ limestone rock formations can only be found in certain parts of the world! And just a short walk from the beach you'll find a pretty park and miniature railway to entertain the little ones.

Over in Seaburn, there are wide, golden sandy beaches perfect for flying a kite and splashing about in the North Sea, as well as children’s playgrounds and rock pools teeming with spectacular sea life. If you visit between September and November, you'll get to witness the spectacular Sunderland Illuminations, full of dazzling displays that'll have all the family in awe.

The family-friendly beaches also have wide paths for cycles, buggies (or skipping!) and there are pedestrian-only promenades for strolling along hand-in-hand.
