Explore the Hanson Way on National Cycle Route 5

Abingdon, Oxfordshire

Enjoy a gentle bike ride along cycle tracks or quiet country roads in the fresh air to discover the delights of Oxford, Abingdon and Didcot.

By cycle or on foot you’ll follow the ancient drovers’ road, the Ridgeway; one of the network of ancient ‘green roads’ criss-crossing Britain.

You’ll encounter mysterious earth works such as the White Horse, scoured out of the turf with chalk and perhaps the emblem of a local tribe; ancient tombs like Waylands Smithy and strange creations such as Dragon Hill and maybe a ceremonial site.

If you happen to have a kite to hand you can spend some time flying it from Uffington Castle, amid the sweet scented meadow flowers and humming bees.
