Savour family fun in sandy Scarborough

Scarborough, North Yorkshire

If you’re looking for good old-fashioned fun that's easy on the wallet, you might want to consider Scarborough beach, also known as the “St Tropez of the North”.

Up on England's north-east coast is beautiful Scarborough, famous for its fantastic golden beach and award-winning donkeys.

Spend a short break frolicking beside the water (or in it, if you're brave enough) at England's first seaside resort and put your buckets and spades, fishing nets and picnic baskets to good use. Search rockpools for hidden sealife, collect shells to make homemade jewellery and build the most spectacular sandcastle there ever was - there are endless ways to have family fun at the beach.

And it wouldn't be a proper English seaside holiday without some battered cod and chips - made even better by a good dousing of vinegar.
