Enjoy a family trip to Hamsterley Forest for walking and cycling routes, horse riding trails, picnic sites and an adventure play park.
Step into Hamsterley Forest – the largest forest in Durham - and you step into nature itself.
This mixed woodland covers more than 2,000 hectares, sprawling along the sides of a sheltered valley, offering your whole family the chance to relax and unwind.
The visitor centre is a great place to start your day with displays on forest wildlife and a fantastic forest play-park for the children. It is also the starting point of a four-mile forest drive that runs through the heart of the forest, giving access to the numerous picnic sites along the way. If the kids aren’t worn out by the play-park, why not hire a bike and take them on a ride before relaxing in the café to finish off a fun filled day.
